14th to 19th january: cambodia trip

been on a procrastination mode on this post. not that i m not excited to write this post, i am but the timing after i came back from this trip was bad. too many stuffs had been lining up such as being really sick, clearing tons of work on my desk before going for chinese new year break, chinese new year, post chinese new year break, being really sick again. in order to write this post i had grounded myself until i finished writing (part of the reason is also because i am broke).

why choose cambodia of all the countries in southeast asia you ask. i had always wanted to go cambodia and i dont know why. cambodia to me sounds so poor, backwards but rich in culture. one thing good about poor country is that you can splurge your money without thinking. you can dine like kings and queens and when you are all full and contented, you will start thinking on how the 13 millions of cambodians longing to be in your shoe. cambodians had been through terrible terrible times during the pol pot era, no word is big enough to describe it. it is just 30 years ago after the fall of pol pot regime and i thought after hitler there was no more mass killing and torture but how wrong i am. 1.5 million people were killed during the 4 years under pol pot ruling. most killed were the educated because communist means no contact, no religion, no education and all should be equal. when i was there, majority of the people were quite young around 20-30 years old. it was hard to find old people around. anyway, enough of grandma story because i can go on forever with this kind of story but y'all will bored to death. so i'll let the pictures do all the story telling.

marsh mallowy cloud..with so many clouds around, we did not experience any turbulance or anything.

got a surprise. thought will land in cambodia with a starving stomach. hehe. thanks satkuru for feeding us.

landed in phnom penh airport after 1 hour 45 mins and the first sentence that utter out from my mouth was 'wahh soooooo dustyyyyyy.' i didnt expect the airport to be so dusty. my pink lungs turned brown after this trip seriously. i will expect COAD during my old age or maybe i should wash my lungs or something.

got out from the arrival hall and so many 'tuk tuk' drivers 'attacked' us. negotiated the price and off we went on a ride that was more thrilling than all the roller coaster ride i had ever sat on. the traffic was so chaotic and who says penang people drive with no rules. cant even compare. it didnt even come close. i was so terrified, i had to hold on to my life and also ai ling's bag because it will fly off or people will just take it. i dont even dare to point out at something out of the 'tuk tuk', someone can just bang into my finger. yes..they drive super near to each other and the wonders of it was u cant even find a single scratch mark on their vehicle. superbly pro drivers.

look how crazy the traffic is.

the traffic light is just for decoration. nobody follows them. see.. at the junction just close your eyes and just go. you will make it to the other side safe and sound. no worries.

we stayed at the capitol hotel just above the capitol restaurant.

the best thing about it was the toilet is really clean

and the room is very spacious for 4 person. and and..its very cheap..

petrol sold in coke bottle.

1st dinner in phnom penh.

angkor beer

rice

sour soup

amok

one word to conclude all..DELICIOUS!!

royal palace. didnt really explore inside.

spidey, snake, crickets and many many more...geli-fied..

breakfast- baguette with pork floss.

before i can finish my baguette, we reached our destination. toul sleng genocide museum.

*note..the headache is back. blogging about this place makes me headache. must have been traumatized already*

this place is not for the faint-hearted

the museum used to be a high school before it is turn to a prison.

1st building

2nd building

3rd building

there are 4 blocks of buildings here. the 1st building was where they tortured the prisoners to get information. this is where i find it creepiest. the 2nd building is where there's small small cells to keep the prisoners. the 3rd building, we can see here all fence up to prevent the prisoners to commit suicide. if i was captured here, i too will commit suicide rather than being brutally tortured.

unimaginable tortured. i thought it only exist in 'zaman purba' or in the dark ages. can u believe it happen in 1975!!!!!

after the traumatic visit, i continued to finish up my hard baguette.

next up the killing field.

i believe everywhere u stepped, looked or turned, there's someone died there before. even the tree they used it for hanging. scary place. many died without a reason. many many unrest souls around.

after that we went to a not so depressing place, the central market.

reached there and got depressed because we cant even find any food stall to fill our stomach. damn depressing!!

it used to be like this..filled with all the food stall and hawkers.

when we went..its like this *fainted*

disappointed we had hard bread for lunch again. off we went to siam reap. weeeee!!

*note cambodia post is soooo freaking long...type so long still only at phnom penh. *fainted*
to be continued...
