Looking at shops like Marie France Bodyline, London Weight Management, Yunnam Hair Care, New York Skin Solution or Bluunis often gave me an impression that a course there would cost a bomb. And you know what, I was partly right.
After staring at the shop for a long time, my curiosity got hold of me. Mel and me went in New York Skin Solution to ask the cost of a facial course. I was surprise when they told me free of charge. So we jump in the ride. We were given separate rooms for consultation.
First they brought me through my skin type. A machine was use to scan my face as well as to take photograph of it. Then all of them was transferred to a computer where they then gave a presentation on my skin condition. My skin type was a combination. Oily at the T-zone and dry on both sides of the cheeks. I was not surprise because many beautician told me the same thing even without a machine. What surprise me was the image of the black and white heads. They were disgusting and worse still the images were from my face.
After that I thought I would jump right on the bed and they will start extracting but no, I was wrong. The consultant suggested a few type of facial for me. She told me my skin was dehydrated and needed lots of moisture and collagen. They would put a collagen pill in the facial session later for me. I was happy until she told me it will cost me RM500++. I nearly fainted when she told me the price. I was a little confused because i thought it supposed to be a free facial course as quoted by her. I reclarify with them and they told me the free facial was just a basic facial that won't help my skin at all. I tried to tell her that I just wanted the free facial because apart from the black and white heads, there was actually nothing wrong with my face. I just wanted to experience the facial environment there. No, they kept pushing me to take the RM500++ course. Lastly I told them I got no money for such an expensive course. They then suggest me a rehydration facial for RM200++. I said no but they kept pushing and at last I gave in.
Had the rehydration facial. It was nothing special compared to the basic facial except they gave me an ice mask which I enjoyed but I still think they charged me overprice. After the facial session was done, I was escorted back to the consultation room. The consultant asked how was my facial and I told her what I'd experienced. Then she ask me to sign up a package with 10 times facial sessions. It was jaw dropping when she told me that the package cost 3000++. It was out of my budget. She then tried to sell me half of the package which I refused to take again. She narrowed it down to a quarter of the package. I just refused to take because it was very expensive even for a one time session. I told her again it was out of my budget and there was no way I will fork out such amount of money for facial. She asked how about putting a deposit first in case I change my mind to sign up for the package because it was on promotional price. This people just wouldn't back down eventhough I refused so many times.
Luckily Mel stormed in my consultation room to save me because she herself can't take the pushing too by her consultant. So together we said no until they came up with a package that was cheap enough for us to afford. Paid and left as fast as we could. Isn't this whole experience a little 'bourne identity'ish. The separate room. The pushing for a yes answer. One thing for sure was I won't go back to that shop ever again. Why would I want to get ambushed and be questioned like a criminal suspect. Ridiculous. Just ridiculous.
